On Sunday afternoon, Tiger Woods won the 2019 Masters. Sporting his classic Sunday red, Woods earned his first green jacket since 2005 and fifth jacket overall. Due to injuries and personal issues, Tiger has stayed quiet over the last decade, having last won a major on the PGA Tour in 2008. But his return has been steady, and many golf fans are excited for what is to come.

Heading in to the 4th day of the tournament, Tiger Woods trailed Francesco Molinari by 2 shots. Yet he managed to stave off the competition, shooting 2-under to seize the lead. Woods tapped in a bogey on 18 to seal the deal. Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Xander Schauffele all tied for 2nd.

After sinking his final putt, Tiger was met with a resounding round of applause as he shook hands with his competitors and hugged his caddy. In one of golf’s new iconic scenes, Woods hurried off the course to hug his family. While Tiger’s win was a huge accomplishment for him as an individual, the outcome also is great for golf as a whole. Woods is an electrifying athlete, and his win allowed many fans who had drifted away from golf to become re-interested.

This Masters Tournament gained a lot of media attention because of Tiger’s contention. For the sake of the sport, a reinvigorated Tiger Woods could be great to allow the game to grow in popularity. Now, Tiger has managed to win 15 major golf tournaments. He now stands 3 shy of Jack Nicklaus, who won 18 majors over his illustrious career. Hopefully, golf fans can watch as Tiger works to beat that record.
