With the beginning of March comes the end of the winter sport season. Basketball, wrestling, hockey, swimming, and winter track all had great seasons once again, and every athlete truly represented what it means to be a Salesian gentleman throughout each event.

    Basketball had a great season under first-year head coach, Mr. Trevisan. The team rallied around each other, under the leadership of their seniors Jack Brown, Darnell Vaughn, and Max Ferrante. They were able to turn the season around, finishing in the eighth seed and making it to the Elite Eight in the tournament. Overall, it was a strong season from the team, and they have much to build on in the future.

    Wrestling also had a fantastic season. Sophomore Daniel Stradley, seniors Harry Latch and Zach Spence took home the championships in their classes. Overall, Sallies finished with a great 10-2 record, adding the three titles to their already astonishing history.

    Swimming picked up yet another state title, their third win in a row. They blew the competition out of the water, scoring an astronomical 397 points, topping the second place Charter of Wilmington, who finished with a total of 124 points. They swept the relays and won six events overall, with Brian Hochman winning two individual events and Alek Elder winning one. This capped off an 11-3 season, and this was truly an unforgettable year for Sallies.

    Winter Track had a very solid season as well. They came so close to another state championship, but finished just ten points short of Dover. However, the season was still a successful one. “The smaller size of the team made the bonds a lot stronger, and that made the season a lot more fun,” said sophomore Matt Deckers. Overall, it was a great season that leaves much to be built on for next year.

    Finally, hockey finished their season with a winning record. They went 10-8-1 and, as of now, are awaiting a game in the Flyers Cup. Although they lost in the DE State Cup, with their team chemistry and talent have a great shot at winning the prestigious cup.

    In short, the winter season was a testament to how well all these teams came together, buckled down, and made their school community proud. We congratulate all the teams from this winter season and look forward to what spring affords for all the Salesianum sports teams.
