As coronavirus cases in the United States rise again and people are forced to stay inside, we turn to what seems to be the only constant in our lives: entertainment, specifically streaming services. With Disney just releasing their lineup December 23, it seemed like they would dominate the upcoming year with several Marvel and Star Wars movies and television shows. Never one to let the competition get ahead, Netflix was ready.

On January 12, Netflix announced a massive slate of films–around 71 new titles–coming to the service. Additionally, the streaming platform announced  to their 190 million subscribers a new movie every single week in 2021. While Netflix’s movies seemed to be “hit or miss” in the past, hopes are high. These 71 movies span multiple genres, including thrillers, comedies, romances, and family style, so there is certainly something for everyone.

Netflix also has an incredible lineup of actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Gal Gadot, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Timothee Chalamet, to name just a few. Directing these new films they have talented and accomplished directors such as Lin Manuel Miranda, Zach Snyder, Jane Campion, and Jay Z.

With this giant slate of new movies with world class actors and directors, will Netflix pull through on their promise of delivering great content?
