Sals Wrestlers Look To Conquer Anticipated Season

In a season that no one believed could happen, Salesianum Wrestling has embarked on their wild 2021 season.  The Sals started off strong with a 33-27 over rival Caesar Rodney.  With a number of great matches throughout the night, there is much to highlight from the dual.

It was a back and forth battle between the Sals and the Riders with both teams trading shots early.  Salesianum picked up big matches from James (Frank) Miller ‘24 who secured 6 team points with a pin, and Carson Kist ‘22 added to the total with a pin of his own.

However, the Sals still found themselves trailing by 6 points with three matches remaining.  This is where Caesar Rodney hit a wall beginning at the 145 pound weight class. 145 pounder Aidan O’Brien ‘21, 152 pounder Josh Spence ‘21 and 160 pounder Tim Froelich ‘21 ended the Riders hopes with three consecutive wins.  The three wrestlers won their matches by a combined 35 points securing the 33-27 victory.

This is just the start for the number one ranked Sals.  With much anticipation for the upcoming season, they look to keep their momentum going as they enter a tough two-week stretch of opponents.  The Sals take on four state-ranked teams in their last six matches, a test that Salesianum Wrestling will have to face head-on in order to accomplish the goal of a team state championship.

The Sals upcoming schedule is nothing short of challenging with top teams such as Smyrna and Caravel arriving soon on the schedule. The wrestlers will have to work hard in and out of practice to win these battles.  With the ongoing pandemic, the Sals opponents aren’t the only things the wrestlers will have to battle.  The team is staying committed to ensuring the health of the wrestlers and the continuation of the season.
