Salesianum’s varsity football squad started the 2023 season off with a bang. The team is now 2-0 in the regular season after two lopsided wins. Over the weekend, the team shutout Bonner and Prendergast high school coming out victorious with a final score of 36-0. Salesianum’s new defensive scheme and tactics seemed to be evident in the win. Salesianum School’s head football coach Gene Delle Donne recently hired former Eagles linebacker, Paul Worrilow, as the team’s defensive coordinator. The Atlanta Falcons signed Worrilow as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft. Worrilow eventually made the 53-man roster and finished the season as the Falcons’ leading tackler and did the same in 2014 and 2015. Worrilow’s tenure with the Falcons ended with an excruciating Super Bowl LI loss to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in arguably one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. Worrilow lived off a short stint with the Detroit Lions and was then signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 following the team’s Super Bowl LII victory. Worrilow signed an extension with the team in 2019 but was later released.
Worrilow currently resides as the defensive coordinator of Salesianum School’s football team. The 2022 Salesianum football season ended in excruciating fashion. The team went 7-3 in the regular season but fell short to Middletown in the quarterfinals with a final score of 34-7. Worrilow will look to assist his head coach in filling the shoes of former Salesianum head coach Bill Dinardo. In 19 seasons, Dinardo led the team to a 157-61 record and won the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 state titles in 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2013. Coach Delle Donne and his five star general will look to take the torch away from Dinardo and continue his legacy.
