One of Salesianum’s newest clubs is DECA, which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. DECA has already amassed an impressive thirty-five-person roster just weeks after its first meeting. DECA was founded by Christian Sullivan (‘24) as executive officer, alongside Connor Quinlan (‘24), Luke Steinrock (‘24), and Ian Sabia (‘24). The club has a presence at high schools nationwide, and looks to help students become more versed in the business world. More specifically, the club looks to help students become more experienced in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Club members compete against other schools in role-play scenarios, case studies, prepared events, and an online simulation.
Senior Ian Sabia described what might make students want to join DECA. Sabia stated: those interested in law have mock trials, political science has Model UN, and DECA fills that third spot with a business approach. When asked what he might say to prospective members, Sabia urged interested students interested in business to join DECA. Sabia described his decision to help start the club, stating that he first decided to become involved when Christian Sullivan asked him to help lead the organization. “Christian told me what the organization was, and I liked the mission, so I decided I would help.” Those interested in the club can contact any of the DECA executive officers.
