On October 27th Salesians for Life held their annual Spike for Life Tournament in order to raise money for Cradle of Hope. The winners of this tournament received Sals Gear as the prize. Cradle of Hope is a nonprofit organization that provides homes for single mothers and their children. On November 28th Rachel Mullelly the director of Cradle of Hope came to accept the money raised by the tournament.
Twenty-six years ago Cradle of Hope was founded with the mission of providing emergency care/housing for pregnant women and has continued to grow over the years. Now Cradle of Hope owns three homes on the same block with a “house mom” who helps take care of the babies. The organization gives them $1,500 to match along with daycare services and a safe community. And that makes it personal, even after the mothers leave and get back on their feet they still stay in contact with everyone with some of the mothers paying back the organization, or checking in.
Mr. Drake who participated in the tournament is a board member for Cradle of Hope. The board discusses how to fundraise in order to fund the three homes, staff, future events, and partnerships.
Ms. Mullelly is the current face of Cradle of Hope. 10 years ago she started as a volunteer and ended up putting in more hours over the years for bible study and helping out however she could. Eventually they needed a director and she stepped up taking the time she put in from 12 hours a week to 40 hours a week at a minimum.
Donations for Cradle of Hope can range from cash donations to baby clothes, diapers, bottles. If anyone would like to volunteer at Cradle of Hope or do a service day you can contact Mr. Drake. A volunteer day might include sorting donations which would greatly help the organization.
