Sallies is elevating its athletic program with the creation of Fusco Fields. The cutting-edge sports complex, made possible by a generous donation from Mr. Anthony N. Fusco, Sr. (Honorary alumnus, class of 2014). This transformative project produced a brand-new baseball field, and two practice fields. The multipurpose turf complex adds a combined occupying 250,000 square feet; bringing Broom Street to new heights.
The fields bring a new mode of training for our athletes; they offer more practice areas for more athletes to work together simultaneously, this allows for more practices to happen concurrently. The fields not only allow for baseball but also for Football, Lacrosse, Cross-Country, Track and Field, and Soccer; while expanding the ability for spectators to enjoy the magic of High School sports. The facility is designed to allow for year-round training opportunities. The fields replace the former natural grass fields with weather-resistant, high-quality turf. These improvements bring a scenic pathway along the northern part of campus; the fields and their beauty can be seen on the ground as well as in the air, as Salesianum’s Dan Jackman (Director of Activities 2012-2022) shows us from 1,500 feet in a C182T flying for Delaware Wing, Civil Air Patrol.
Tony Fusco and the Anthony & Catherine Fusco Foundation have been longtime supporters of Salesianum, establishing the school’s Fusco Athletic Center and supporting the school’s financial aid initiatives to allow students of all walks of life into the school that we all love so dearly. We are very grateful for the Fusco family and their continued support of Salesianum.
Salesianum’s school president, Dr. Thomas Kardish, praised Fusco’s contributions earlier this year, saying, “We are extraordinarily fortunate to have people like Tony who understand the value of our mission and possess the willingness to make cornerstone gifts that allow us to build upon the school’s rich foundation and legacy.” Mr. Fusco’s generous gift benefits not only the school as a whole, but also each of Salesianum’s students—235 freshmen, 274 sophomores, 214 juniors, and 198 seniors. The skills these gentlemen develop on the athletic fields will stay with them for life, shaping their character and values far beyond their time at Salesianum.
Salesianum athletes, friends, and families are invited to the grand opening ceremony on November 1st, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Come on out for an evening of family fun featuring food, beverages, live music, face painting, balloon artists, and more.
