On Saturday February 22nd, Salesianum swimmers found themselves back in the pools battling Delaware schools such as Saint Marks and Wilmington Charter to take home the swimming state title. This marks their 9th consecutive title and coach Chip’s 23rd state title in his 25 years of coaching, adding to their now over 40 titles.
Remarkable swimming was seen from junior Tim Hanway 26’, who claimed a record for the 500-yard freestyle. The team was also able to take back the 200m free relay record from Saint Marks, their biggest rival, due to the amazing swimming and coordination from Emery Hess 27’, Alex Tsakumis 25’, Dylan Ristenbatt 27’, and Sebastian Hess 25’.
Overall, Salesianum continues to dominate the swimming scene (thanks to the guidance of coach Chip and the studded team) and is looking forward to doing more great things next year. When asked about the victory and the future of the team, Ian Chan 28’ replies “I would say, I have been really encouraged by the upperclassmen to work harder because I see them and all their accomplishments, which motivates me. This creates a good environment to set goals for yourself and encourage others.” Salesianum truly is a big fish in a little pond, and that big fist is sure fast and hungry!
